FAQ
Do you shoot destination weddings?
Whilst based in the South West of England, we will consider destination weddings and events. We will travel to other locations however there may be a surcharge added to cover travel and accommodation as necessary.
Can I extend the session on the day of?
Unfortunately this cannot be guaranteed. It is therefor essential that you book the correct session to fulfil your needs. We will of course do our utmost to ensure that all parts of your wedding or photo shoot as discussed in your pre-meet and contract are covered, and we are sympathetic to unavoidable delays. Should you wish to add something extra on the day which will extend the session, we will accommodate you wherever possible, however this is not guaranteed and an additional charge may be requested.
What kind of gear do you use?
We use high end professional equipment and always ensure we carry spares for any emergencies. Our camera bodies are all Canon as are our speedlites. When shooting events or weddings we work with multiple camera bodies and each camera records to two memory cards simultaneously. We also use Profoto lights and other equipment such as tripods, modifiers, reflectors and light stands. The exact equipment varies according to the type of photographic assignment and the location, along with other factors.
Do I have to order prints through you?
Depending on the type of photography you are after and your intended use of the images, your images may or may not come in printed form. It may be that you have purchased digital files, and these may (or may not) come with printing rights. You are of course welcome to print such digital files, however we have links to the most professional photo labs which are unavailable to the general public. We can ensure a high quality lasting print that can be beautifully presented in a mount or a luxurious folio box. Or how about a photo album? Many printed items can be added to your package or order, and if you have any other requests for different formats then we are happy to see what we can create for you. Please note, we cannot be held responsible for the quality of any prints not ordered through us.
Can I share the images on line on my social media?
Absolutely yes! We love it when clients share there images - it is one of the ways we know how thrilled you are with them! What we have to insist on however is that you credit S J Photography Ltd with the images each and every time you (or someone else) shares them. A link to our relevant page would also be very much appreciated as much of our business comes through happy clients and word of mouth!
I want to book a portrait session. Do you provide a hair and make up artist?
Our portrait packages include hair and make up services for one person as part of the session fee. You can also add on a hair and make up for additional persons, although this must be mentioned at the time of booking.
I hate having my portrait taken. Help!
We totally understand that it can be quite daunting to stand in front of a camera to have your photo taken. We employ a range of techniques to put you at ease and encourage you to make us aware of any insecurities or nervousness that we can reassure you about and help you overcome.
Do I have to wear make up?
In theory, of course, no, we would never insist that you wear make up. However, a light base layer of foundation will help even skin tone; light coating of mascara and subtle eye highlight and colour will help your eyes pop and look bigger and a dusting of loose powder will reduce shine if you start to feel sweaty. So our guide for make up is generally a step up from what you would normally wear. Our portraiture session fee includes a hair and make up artist.
What should I wear?
We will discuss your wardrobe in detail prior to your session. If you are booking a wedding, then it would be helpful to make us aware of colour schemes and give us a general idea of what the bridal party are wearing.
For portrait sessions, what you wear will depend on the type if session you have booked and the style you are after. We are happy to give wardrobe advice and guide you on a case by case basis and of course you may find inspiration in our client galleries and elsewhere on line.
When will my images be ready?
The length of time taken to edit your images will depend on the type and length of session booked and can take anything from 10 days to 2 months to complete. Printed items may take longer as all printing is outsourced to professional printing houses in Europe to ensure quality.
I don't see a package I am after; can you tailor make a package for me?
Yes! We are more than happy to tailor make, or adjust a package to fit your needs. All we ask is that you provide us with as much information as possible so that we can give you an accurate quote and ensure that we fully understand your needs. To find out more, please use one of the contact forms found on this website.
What does the portraiture session fee include?
The session fee covers our pre-session discussions; our preparation time; shooting time; insurance; studio hire and hair and make up services if applicable, and our time and expertise in preparing and revealing your images. It does not include the actual images; you will need to select and purchase these separately once you have viewed them, but you only buy what you love! A print credit is included to assist you with purchasing images.
How do I make a booking?
Use the contact form to let us know what you are after. We will then be in touch to book you in. A 25% deposit is required before any booking is confirmed, so please ensure this is paid promptly to avoid disappointment.
When do I pay?
You pay a 25% deposit at the time of booking. This reserves your date and session. You will be requested to pay the balance of the wedding or session fee no less than 2 weeks prior to your session. Should you make a short notice booking then the payment will be due in full immediately.
Do you ever run promotions and special deals?
Yes we do! These are announced on our social media so please make sure to follow us on Instagram and / or Facebook so you don't miss out!
